on being offended

I wish people would live their lives assuming that other people really truly just mean well. Here's what I think: people generally don't mean to offend ie: backstab ie:say one thing and mean another. I CHOOSE to believe that people mean well, and if what they say comes off sounding like an insult, or sounding offensive, I CHOOSE to believe that they didn't intend it that way and if they had something they wanted to say they would come out and say it - not beat around the bush. I know what you're thinking "she's got her head in the sand". But tell me this: Whatever is the point of getting offended? It's no skin off my nose if they really meant to offend me...because if I CHOOSE not to let them offend me, and CHOOSE to assume that they only meant well, then I don't get all caught up in angst and insecurity and wondering what I said. I can shed all of that crap and just live my life assuming that all's well. so far so good.
