the dreaded journey continues..

So yesterday I went to get dreads at Salon Soho!!! Yes I DID, crazy hey? Not as crazy as said Salon being CLOSED for no apparent reason??!?!?!!!! What the Heck??!!!?! This is how my day started out.

6:30am - wake up and promptly go back to sleep

8:30am - wake up again and call my dear friend M, who was planning to pop in on my 6 hour appointment and maybe take some pics. Since my dh wasn't going along to hold my hand and bring me drinks and tylenol, she offered to go together - so she'd drop me off and go shopping and maybe pop in a bit, go shopping and then pick me up and then we'd see. Love it. Great plan.

9:00am - hop in the shower and wash my hair sans conditioner, 'cuz everyone knows that you should never dread your hair with extra product in it.

9:30am- have breaky consisting of some kick-butt homemade "savory bread" that my df K made and sent home with us on Monday.

9:45am - try to blow dry my non-conditioned hair, and cursing only slightly as my hair is frizzy and static-y and tangled. Manage to dry it and get it into somewhat respectable shape - I mean I'm not going out with it like that after all, I'm only going straight to the salon -right?...hmm.

10:15am - I am primped and primed for my dreaded journey. Tylenol in my purse, comfy clothes on, money for snacks...all good. M arrives and we are OFF to the 'peg. Fun drive in, laughed lots, talked lots....good times.

11:00am - arrive early to the salon (my appointment is for 11:30) so we drive around looking for a spot to park in the Village that won't get us towed. Find said spot, with only one irrate driver cursing at us :) We are quite restrained and don't curse (loudly) back or flip him the bird or anything. I'm not sure which is worse, flipping the bird and cursing, or laughing at him. In any case - we end up with a nice spot - and we walk to Second Cup for a little mid morning pick-me-up.

11:20am - walk back to the salon (which incidentally "opened" at 11:00 and said "walk-ins welcome") and there is a great big CLOSED sign still on the door. Puzzled we knock and wonder what to do. Walk back to our great parking spot, sit in the van and drink our drinks, chat.

11:30am - call Salon Soho to see if they are open - no answer. Do this a few times until ...

11:55am- walk to the salon again - still closed - check at the tanning salon next door, and they say that someone else was wondering what was up, too. They didn't open up monday OR today - hmmm veryyy strange.

12:00am - decide to scrap this and go shopping

Which ended up being entirely too much fun and too much money :) but we both came outta there with new jeans and some other fun stuff. Jeans being the main mission of the day.

I don't know what the heck happened to Salon Soho, needless to say I don't have dreads and spent the whole day shopping with static-y, frustrating hair. As M said, you can look your absolute best and still feel like crap when you're shopping, never mind with bad hair. Thank goodness for good friends! I don't know what I would have done without her! just gone home and moped around I'm sure.

But..thanks to M, we stopped in, like, 6 different salons asking if they did dreads and if they knew who did. A couple chicks gave us looks, like "are you crazy", and sent us on our way. I guess some hairdressers don't think dreads are all that :) kinda makes me want to do it more.

At the end of this nuts day, we stopped in at a salon in St.Vital, and it turns out the girl we talked to had dreads, but cut them off in fall for cancer care support, and she had them done by the same girl that I was supposed to get them done by, and she used to do dreads but stopped because it was too intense, and she's good friends with the chick who's supposed to do my hair, soooo...she's going to find out what the heck's going on and call me...I'm not sure that she will, but I know where she works.....not sure if I actually want to go that route and seem like a stalker or anything...we'll see where this journey goes yet...but what a WIERD DAY!!

I was very much looking forward to the dreads and I'm now disappointed that you don't have them and that there are no pictures for me to enjoy. Don't give up!!! I need to see the dreads!!!

What a hoot!! Now you are someone who can obviously make lemonade out of lemons. Seriously!! What a bummer! But what a great attitude you had. And that, and many more reasons are why I love you. And I'm with Mark, you better not give up. I need a friend with dreads!
