christmas memories

I remember...

* My grandma and grandpa coming over Christmas morning after we had opened our presents so we could show them off. I loved that...one year we got these play phones that worked, too cool, (nowadays it's walkie talkies and GPS's) and grampa would be in one room and us in the other, and we'd talk and he was such a good sport..he really was the best grampa.

* Grandma K's fudge mmmmmm

* Watching Little House on the Prairie's Christmas show with Mom and my sib's the year that Dad was gone up north 'til just before Christmas. That memory is funny, because I remember feeling very Christmasy and safe and cozy with Mom, but really waiting for Dad to come home too. (who knows if that memory is accurate or not!)

* Waking up at 5 am Christmas morning and waking up my sisters and brother and going to see the tree with all the presents for the first time. Sometimes I was shaking with all the anticipation!

* Mom's christmas baking....especially sausage rolls!

* Christmas Eve program at church...I really loved doing the program in the evening and coming home for peanuts and goodies before going to bed. I remember all the cleaning and getting into our new Christmas clothes...it was such an exciting day...we always took a family picture that night, too.

* Waking up my own kids Christmas morning with bells and ho ho ho's and hearing them tear into the living room..."I heard Santa!"

* One Christmas Joshua was sooooo grumpy..and it was sooo funny because we were doing all that we could to get him into the spirit - even though he was only 2.

* My first Christmas with P. We were both working full time and spent an obscene amount of money on each other. Hasn't happened again since, but what a memory!

* For a couple of years in a row we went to a friends cabin in Sandilands. They never went there on Christmas day, so we had it to ourselves. We went skating on the pond and had hot chocolate and treats inside around a warm fire. We'd invite my parents and P's parents and spend a couple of hours together. They sold the cabin :(

* coming home to mom and dad's one christmas morning, and some strangers were there! There had been a big storm Christmas Eve and my parents put them up for the night. How wierd for them!

Merry Christmas!!!

I'm going to try the jingle bells and Ho Ho Ho on Christmas morning when K wakes me up at 5:30. Even D will think Santa was here. :)
